Junior Sailing Lessons
Creating Memories, Teaching Life Lessons Since 1960
Junior Lessons
The CSC Junior Program is designed to introduce young sailors to the fundamentals of sailing and encourage a lifelong love for knowledge of and confidence in the wind and sea. Instructors - high schoolers and college students from Cohasset - teach the essential skills of rigging, safety, boat handling, and sail trim in a supportive, confidence-building environment.
Students may begin enrolling for the summer following 4th Grade and can continue into High School. Our teaching philosophy centers on group sailing, with three to four kids—and sometimes an instructor—learning together in each boat, creating a collaborative and fun experience. Students learn in RS Quests, which are 14’ dinghies with a mainsail and jib. They are about the same length as a 420 used by the racing team, yet with greater stability, width and cockpit space to better accommodate kids and instructors at the same time. Quests are fast becoming to teaching boat of choice for junior programs around the world.
As participants advance, they gain opportunities to refine their technique, develop independence, and explore the excitement of friendly racing. Importantly, we encourage all of our students to share their new-found abilities by bringing their friends and family on the water during open sail.
Class options may be viewed from within your account. Registration for junior lessons begins April 1, 2026 and 7:00 pm. Please contact us if you have any questions at info@cohassetsailingclub.org.
The 2026 Junior Program begins Monday, June 22 and ends Thursday August 13th. Students may begin enrolling for the summer following 4th Grade and can continue into High School. It is structured into four distinct levels, each building upon the skills learned in the previous year.
“It’s really fun because you get to go sailing with your friends. It makes capsizing less scary and fun and the instructors are nice.”
