Sandpiper Daysailer

The Marshall Sandpiper

The 15 foot Marshall Sandpipers is the newest addition to our fleet, giving adults a more stable daysailor and juniors a bot ideal for adventure sailing and lessons. have been built locally in South Dartmouth, MA since 1972. It’s a day sailing version of the historical catboat. Catboats are single-masted vessels (i.e. a mainsail and no jib) that date back to the mid-1800s in New England, where their shallow draft, wide cockpits and stability made them ideal as working boats for fishing and transporting goods to commercial square riggers moored in local harbors.

Today, catboats are used for recreation and racing. There are thriving fleets nearby in Duxbury, the South Coast, and Cape Cod as well as up and down the East Coast from NJ to FL.

A unique design feature of a Sandpiper is its full keel, which has 200 lbs of ballast and a retractable centerboard. With the centerboard down, it draws less than 4 ft. With it up, only 16 inches. Their exceptional stability and shallow draft make them an ideal boat for sailing around Cohasset harbor and the local flats for sailors of all ages.
